GRR Martin seems to grasp what aspects of characters to present to make them relevant and memorable. For example everyone remembers Ned Stark as honourable, its an relatable trait, and its relevant to the plot, we also hear about how he is a good ruler who listens to his subjects, but equally lacks the skills and motivations to play politics.

Summary. George R.R. Martin is known for his incredibly well-crafted world-building, characters, and storylines — but the price of this approach is an incredibly stretched workflow.
