Hi Richard, I have a 2006 s-type 2.7 diesel. I have been getting a fault of restricted performance for several weeks shortly after starting the car. If I turn off the engine and restart after about 15 seconds the message goes and the comes after a few minutes of driving.

After driving for 1-2 minutes on the way to the store, the message "transmission fault" appeared and the car then went into safety-mode with "restricted performance".
To me the S-type diesel had much better lift when moving in traffic. Of course petrol/diesel have quite different characteristics, and now I have a late 2.7 at sensible s/h money, I find it a very reassuring, unfussy, most competent drive, and without that high rev petrol scream when accelerating flat out.
